Maomao, a lovely 8 years old boy, he is the son of my father’s brother. He grown in a violence family, his father have family violence tendency. He once pushed Maomao out of the the window to scare him. He always beat and scold child, rarely encourge and prise. After divorces, Maomao look after by my grandparents. At home, no one to play with him and no one to help him with his homework. Maomao often cry in the night. At shcool. Maomao does poorly and he always be bulled by orther children even younger. Family violence bring to children is not only the physical harm, more is the psychologica damage. 

The defination of family violence:

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary definition, Family violence is: "the inflicting of physical injury by one family or household member on another; also: a repeated or habitual pattern of such behavior. Family violence is a broader definition, often used to include child abuse, older abuse, and other violent acts between family members. Family violence as many forms, including physical aggression or assault (hitting, kicking, biting, shoving, restraining, slapping, throwing objects), or threats thereof; sexual abuse; emotional abuse; controlling or domineering; intimidation; stalking; neglect and economic deprivation. ①

The damage of family violence is very large, it has a great influence on chindren in a violent family. Especially when children face the directly violence, it is easier to make children feel scared, anxious and pessimistic. Light violence will affect children's emotions, learning and life; if serious, maybe the children will run away from home, crime and even to suicide. In this essay, I write mainly on the children’s damage of family violence from three aspects: the character, the behavior and the family relationship. 

The effects of family violence on children 

(1) lead to ill character

A child, growing up in a violent environment, usually has some defects in character. Such as: timid, suspicious, bad-tempered, give up easily, no stamina and so on. Some conclusions were gained through comparing “the character trait of juvenile delinquent” (table1) analysis and “how did the family members treat you” (table2) analysis: the bad character of children who have often be beat and scold by parents is most obvious. The survey shows, in the juvenile delinquent, 25.7 percent of children feel inferior; 22.1 percent of children’s characters are cold; and 56.5 percent of children’s characters are irritable. Besides, there are 55.2 percent juvenile delinquent readme irritable. That means, the irritable character is the hidden reason of juvenile delinquency; and the violence by parents is the major source of minor’s bad character (see the table3). There was a child who hurt people with a knife when fighting, and then he be detained. The child said: “I don’t want to fight, but I cannot control myself. I am unlucky, I have a strict father, he always beats me and my mother. In my childhood, if I made a small mistake I will be beaten and scold. He wants me to be a perfect person, but I hate him more and more. In my middle school, I had good grades, but I still be beaten. Once time, even my sports teacher hits me. Why am I always beaten? I don’t want to go to school; neither do I want to stay at home.” The family violence have a deeply damage influence on children’s character.

From the table2 we can see, the two groups are very different. In addition, because the parents overvalue children’s learning, usually have 24.6 ﹪ father and 14.2 ﹪ mother use beat and scold way to educate their child when the child has a bad grades.

The survey’results shows that: according to the minor prisoner said, they has been the family "often beat and scold" accounts for 16.1﹪ before crime,  was "out of the house" accounts for 5.6 ﹪.

 (2) increase the bad behavior

According to the research, the major reason of the minor are beaten and scolded by parents is that the parents for the child’s good and want the child to be a perfect person. They want to change children’s bad behavior by beating and scolding, but the result is in the opposite direction, children still do what they want. The result of analysis shows: The bad behaviors of children who always are beaten and scolded by parents are higher than children who live in a good family environment. The bad behaviors include “night out”, “group scuffle”, “steal”, “see the book and video about sex”. MaoMao，the son of my father’s brother. When he is angry, he always does some bad behaviors, like throwing hard things to the person who made him angry, even though you told him: that is bad, you can not do it. When people scolded him he always looking down and don’t move like a “wooden”. On the other hand, minors have a strong tendency to imitate others' behaviors, family members are the best model of children. Many parents did not realize that they give children a bad example of their violent behavior. When my grandma does something make Maomao angry, he will say: “when I grow up, I will not look after you.” Actually, the parents is the child’s first teacher. 

(3) The troubled family relationships and about revenge.

According to the survey data analysis, we can see that, the worse relationship exists between parents and their children, the higher proportion of beat and scold there will be; or, the more beat and scold children got, the worse relationship lies between children and parents. This shows, the family relationship and the parents’ way treat to child, they both mutually affect, interdependent, and restrict. 这两者相互影响，相互制bln0Hate their parents and don not feel warm and safe of family is the direct result of the children be beat and sclod by perents. And also is the directly caurse of children “run away”. According to the survey analysis, in all the minor crime, there are 

67.3 percent had run away from home experience. Most of the reason they run away from home are related to family violence. Among that, there are 6.5 percent of whom beacuse "parents beat and scold for no reason",25.5 percent of whom are " fear parents blame for my own mistakes  and 17.7 percent of whom are " beat and scold by parents because my own mistakes".⑤ Once away from home, it is easy to make friends with bad people. Besides, children who are often beaten by parents are easy to get strong desire for revenge and rebellion. In the juvenile delinquent, there are many children revenge parents through knife, medicine, rope or something else. There is a child who dropped the rat medicine into his fathers' water, and unfortunately, his father was dead. But the child’s thought was very simple: he didn’t want to kill him, just wanted to give a "warning" to his parents. The poor father didn't know why his child killed him until his last minute. It is no doubt that the motives force of the child to kill his father is the long-time family violence. His father not only lost his life, but also destroyed the child's life. 

People think woman is the victim of family violence all the time, but ignored the damage for children. Actually, family violence have an extremely profound effect on the children’s physical and mental development even the future periods of personality characteristics. Family violence filled with every corner of the society, and tiggers many family tragedy. Control and reduce the family violence is not only the needs of family happiness, but also an effective way to decrease the juvenile delinquency. For this reason, all the sectors of the community should do something for the victim of family violence. Like give the victim more overall, more concrete, more approprite help. And I also hope that victimes, espacially the children, can acquired overall, specific, proper attention and help from law, society, and mentality fields. I hope one day the problem of family violence can get better social effective solution.
