Hello, everyone, welcome to my class.I’m WangFujun from the comprehensive high school. It’s my great pleasure sharing my lesson with you. My lesson is lesson1 ON YOUR BIKE,unit9, module3 .I’ll begin this lesson from five parts.
Part 1. Analysis of teaching material:
I will analyze the teaching material from three aspects: the status and function, the learning objectives and the key and difficult points.
First, the status and function:
Unit9 is about wheels. Lesson1 is serving the function of reading comprehension. But speaking and writing will also be practiced in it. With the development of science and technology, transportation in cities is improving, but with the convenience it has brought to us, some other problems are coming out, such as traffic jams, air pollution, etc. but how to solve the problem? Well, in today’s lesson, Amsterdam will show us a good solution.
The teaching objectives are as follows:
1). Learning objective: the students can know bicycle program in Amsterdam and learn some new words.
2). Ability objective: students can guess the meaning of the title and get the general idea of each paragraph.
3). Moral objective: students can improve their sense of environmental protection.
Now, let’s come to the key and the difficult points. As is mentioned above, this lesson is served as a reading comprehension, so it’s very important to improve student’s ability of reading comprehension, such as , for specific information by skimming . For some students, speaking and writing may be difficulties, so we should notice them.
Next is the analysis of the students. Most of the students in my class are boys. As we all know, boys can think and talk actively, but at the same time, they have a poor foundation of English and their vocabulary is small. So it’s very important to enlarge their vocabulary and draw their interest in the class.
Well, how to achieve the teaching objectives better?
I will use the following methods .
1) the guiding paper method
2) the learner-centered method
The reason why I use these methods is that according to the new standard curriculum and the syllabus, teachers need to encourage students to explore and practice on their own, and be the center of a class.
At the same time, I’ll make use of the guiding paper. It can develop the Ss creativity in learning English. The teacher plays a role of instructor and organizer.
Now here comes the most important part: the teaching procedure. This procedure is divided into two parts:
1) self-study before class
2) during class
Self-study before class consists of four parts.
Part1. knowledge linking
Part2. vocabulary
Part3. prediction of the title
Part4. main idea of each paragraph
It is very important for the students to learn by themselves, so I design this part in order that they can learn in their future study.
The second part of my teaching procedure is During class. Before the class, I will divide the whole class into 9 groups. At the beginning of the class, I will do a word quiz to check their preview of the new words. Each group tries to answer, anyone who answers correctly will get a point. At the end of the quiz, I will see which group gets the highest. The purpose of this step is to get students warmed up, check their preparation before class and improve their competition spirit. This part will take 5 minutes.
Step2 is presentation. The group leaders write down the meaning of the title and main idea of each paragraph on the blackboard, and others can put forward their different ideas. The purpose of this step is to enhance the student’s confidence and train their spoken English. This part will take 7 minutes.
Step3 is group work . In this part, students are required to read for specific information, answer some questions and summarize the text in 30 words. These skills are needed in the test. This part will take 13 minutes.
Step4 is ability improvement. After reading the text, students are familiar with the content, so it’s time to practice their spoken English by talking about the changes in Amsterdam and the results and effects caused. After that, a topic writing is followed. I will give them some material which is related to the text. Not only the students’ writing skills, but also their sense of environmental protection will be improved. This part will take 15 minutes.
Step5 is Homework: if the students cannot finish the writing in the class, they can do it after class.
Step6 is Sum up.In the last 5 minutes of the class, Students and I will sum up the content together.
Reflection.
In this class, students can practice their skills of speaking , reading and writing, and the learner-centered methods are used. Of course, there are some shortcomings in my lesson, for example, as time is limited, students can not get enough exercises. I hope I can get improved with the help of all of you. That’s all for my presentation. Thank you very much!
