1. The R-27 air-to-air missile is categorized into three radar types: semi-active radar homing, active radar homing, and infrared.
2. The R-27R/RE variant employs a 9B-1101K semi-active radar seeker, operating in the J-band. This seeker is capable of locking onto targets with a radar cross-section (RCS) as small as 5 square meters from a distance of up to 30 kilometers.
3. The R-27AE model is equipped with a 98-1103M active radar seeker. The integrated computer features 32 kilobytes of random-access memory and 32 kilobytes of read-only memory, allowing it to lock onto targets with an RCS of about 5 square meters within a range of 16 to 20 kilometers.
4. The R-27T variant utilizes a 36T infrared seeker, capable of detecting the head of the target and comes with a high-performance tracking system. This enables the missile to closely follow highly maneuverable targets while having strong abilities against jamming and interference.
5. The R-27ET model is an extended-range improvement of the R-27T, equipped with a significantly improved T36 seeker.
