Using actual words for texting(发短信)is no longer enough.Happy, sad or angry, emojis
help us better express ourselves while messaging.
So which little colorful icons(符号)do people use the most? That was the central question of
a new study done by UK software company SwiftKey that looked at emoji use around the world.
The study's findings showed some interesting things about many countries.
France uses the heart emoji four times more than any other country, and it's the only country
in which the smiley face is not the most used emoji.Australians seem like the most fun-loving
people,as the country leads the way in some interesting emoji categories(分类),including
holidays, clothing, junk food and alcohol. Americans love strange -emojis,including skulls,
meat, birthday cakes and fire.Canadians also finished first in some unexpected categories, such
as poop and money characters. They also lead the way in violent emojis, including guns, knives,
fire,explosions and bombs.
A nation's landscape(风景)-and even its natural history-affects its emoji usage too.
Russia turns to the snow icon more than any other country. Arabic-language users use camels
more than any other language type. And Australia, which once built the longest fence in the world
to keep rabbits from eating their way too far west, uses more rabbit emoji than anywhere else. In
fact,Australia leads the world in animal emoji usage.
21.Which little colorful icon is most used in France?

Studying in the US,I find that many Chinese students are too shy to socialize with American
students. They say it's the language barrier that stops them. But in my mind, the reasons are
beyond language.
The first reason may be that these students feel a little inferior to American students,
especially when they don't speak English well. Because of the cultural and economic differences
between the Western and Eastern worlds in general, some Chinese students subconsciously(下意
识地)think highly of Western students.
Second, some Chinese students are too afraid of feeling embarrassed. Because of the
language problem,Chinese students often find it hard to understand the jokes their American
peers make. Some may feel so embarrassed that they try to avoid talking to Americans.
There is also a cultural reason. China and the US have very different cultures. It's natural
that students from these two countries find it hard to understand each other. Some Chinese
students choose not to watch American TV shows or listen to American music since they don't
understand the jokes in American comedy or the lyrics of a popular song. That leads to further
segregation(隔阂)between themselves and American peers.
I'm no expert, but I do want to give a few tips to students who are planning to study abroad
and are interested to fit in. First,be confident. Your foreign classmates are not superior to you.
Don't think of them all as hard-to-reach people. Second, always say yes to social activities
whether they are organized by your school or your friends. Go to watch sports games even if you
are not playing and are just there to cheer for the team. Third, don't try to improve your English
merely by memorizing vocabulary. Try to watch TV shows, read popular books, and just talk to
people. Remember, language is not a barrier and it never will be. The real barriers exist because
you are not trying.
25 .The underlined phrase“inferior to”in Paragraph 2 probably means“ ”.
A. interested in B. colder than C. senior to D. junior to
26.What does the author think is the, bhrrier for the Chinese students in Paragraph 4?
A. Music. B. Comedy. C. Segregation. D. Culture.
27 .What is the purpose of the text?
A. To introduce the US culture. B.To attract Chinese students.
C .To give some suggestions. D. To overcome the language barrier.
28.Which part is the text most likely taken from in a newspaper?
A. Campus. B. Discovery. C. Science. D. World.

Want to improve your life? Then do something awesome(触动心灵的).
According to a recent article in The Wall Street Journal, researchers have found that awe-
inspiring experiences improve our behaviors, making us more generous and modest. Awe-inspiring
experiences make us more sympathetic, allowing us to recognize another person's emotional
expressions better and respond with concern. And they make us more willing to engage with trust
and connect with others.
What kind of experiences can be called“awe-inspiring”?The examples mentioned by the
journal include witnessing the birth of a child, watching a meteor shower(流星雨)and visiting a
forest. A man said he found it awe-inspiring to work with homeless people and witness their
courage and kindness. Awe is an emotional response to something very large, says the article,
and it challenges and expands our way of seeing the world.
But the feeling of awe is felt differently by different individuals, and for different reasons.
The deep blue ocean might inspire different feelings in a poet than in a fisherman, for example.
According to an article in The Atlantic,a 2012 study from Stanford University investigated
several aspects of awe and came to an interesting conclusion:the feeling of awe changes the way
you think about time. The stu即says an awe-inspiring experience is a moment so overwhelming
(无法抗拒的)that time seems to stand still. When you look at or experience something
awesome, like looking at a waterfall or a sky filled with stars, your mind is fixed on the present
moment. Time seems to slow down, the Stanford researchers concluded, making you feel like you
have more of it to spare. This makes you feel more patient, less materialistic, and more willing to
help others.
29.What does the writer advocate in the text?
A. Making time stand still. B.Watching a meteor shower.
C .Being fixed on the present moment. D. Having awe-inspiring experience.
30.What does the underlined word“it" in the last paragraph probably refer to?
A. Time. B. Money. C. Effort. D. Patience.
31 .What does the text mainly talk about
A. Awe-inspiring experiences'effect. B.Making full use of our time.
C .Doing something strange to people. D.A person's awe-inspiring experience.
32.The text is mainly developed ·
A. by comparison B. by example C. by time D. by classification

Have you ever been writing an English word and thought:“I really need to look it up in the
dictionary and check my spelling"?If so,don't worry. You are in the same boat as some English
native speakers.
A recent survey carried out by UK TV channel Nick Jr. in the country found that more than
half of British people frequently have issues spelling some commonly-used words correctly.
The results of the study emphasized(强调)the average person's reliance(依赖)on spelling
assistance like the computer's“sutocorrect,’function. As many as 40 percent of those polled(接
受调查)said that they completely rely on“autocorrect”technology when spelling in day-to-day
communication. And over a fifth would panic if they were forced to stop using spell-checking
technology and rely on their own knowledge·
“A common mistake many make is writing a word the way it sounds which leaves us
muddling up(混淆)one letter with another and getting it wrong,”The Telegraph noted.
“Fortunately, computers' spell-check corrects wrongly spelled words for us,but that means we
become lazy and never learn the correct spelling.”
But spelling mistakes still prove common and costly-48 percent of Britons admit they can't
help but judge people's intelligence by their written words.“There's no excuse not to learn how
words are formed-it's drilled into us from such a young age and if the words are frequently used
we should make an effort to get it right next time,”said The Telegraph.
33.What does the underlined part in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. English native speakers take the same boat to sea.
B .English native speakers have the same problems.
C .English native speakers use the same dictionary.
D .English native speakers share the same computers.
34.From the survey we know that Britons fully rely on“auto-correct" technology.
A. 20% B. 40% C. 48% D. 50%.
35.What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Being in an effort to make mistakes.
B .Written works reflect one's intelligence.
C .No pains,no gains.
D. No mistakes,no progress.
