The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge(HZMB) officially opened to the general public on Oct 24, 2018. Unsurprisingly,it attracted many Hong Kong residents hopping to be the first to cross the 55-kilometer bridge-and-tunnel cross-sea passage linking Hong Kong with Zhuhai and Macao. It usually takes two hours or longer to travel from Hong Kong to Zhuhai by boat. But with the HZMB,one can do it in 75 minutes by bus.
Before the HZMB opened, ferries (轮渡)and trains were the primary means of transportation for Hong Kong residents to go to Guangzhou. Many Hong Kong residents have relatives and even family members in those areas which is why they go there every now and then. Now the HZMB offers Hong Kong residents a shorter passage to western Bay Area and changes the one- hour living circle closer to reality Many holiday resorts(度假胜地)are now within easy reach.
As the cost of living rises in Shenzhen and Guangzhou,it is natural for people to move to less expensive areas. To those people who travel further to western Guangdong for business or entertainment the HZMB is very conven- ient. Because it will save them a lot of valuable time.
It is common for newly opened infrastructure facilities(基础设施)around the world to experience glitches (故障 )more often than usual in the early days of service. That means people should practice patience when using the HZMB on these days. According to interviews with some of the"early birds"who drove from Hong Kong to Zhuhai and Macao via the HZMB on Wednesday morning, the clearance procedure was quite smooth, but parking turned out to be a problem, mainly in figuring out directions.

A new way of exercise, called logging, is becoming popular around the world. It requires people to pick up rubbish while running. Actually, picking up trash in the forest or parks can also make you fit.
The logging movement was started by Erik Ahlstrom in 2016 in Sweden. After moving to Stockholm from a small skiing community in northern Sweden,he found there was litter here and there while riding his bike to work every day. He was shocked that the same rubbish could remain in the road for several weeks without anyone picking it up. So he started picking it up. And he felt good in his heart to clean up even a small place.
Stopping to clean up trash has become a habit, then as he introduced the activity to his partners, it became a part of his exercise. By 2016 other people were joining in, and plogging became an official event in Sweden. Since then the movement has grown organically(有组织的) around the world, thanks to the social media.
Many people, like Emily Wright, had plogged for a long time. She picked up cigarette ends, plastic bottles and so on, although some of them were smelly and even made her sick. Logging wasn't always pleasant, but what scared her more was to leave trash there. She thought it was worth doing that, and it was really terrible for a person not to take responsibility(责任)for it.
In a word, this activity also calls on everyone to do something for the environment in our daily life. We'd better do that from now on.

C. we can go to the forest and parks in free time

第四部分 书面表达(共两节,满分30分)
第一节 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
Since the 1970s, scientists have been searching for ways to connect our brain with computers. Brain-computer Interface (BCI) technology could help people with disabilities send commands(指令)to machines.
Recently, two researchers, Jose Millan and Michele Tavella from the Federal Polytechnic School in Lausanne, Switzerland, showed us a small robotic wheelchair directed(指挥) by a person’s thoughts.
In the laboratory, Tavella operated the wheelchair just by thinking about moving his left or right hand. "Our brain has billions of cells. These send signals through the spinal cord(脊髓)to the muscles to give us the ability to move. ①But some injuries or other conditions can stop these weak electrical signals from reaching the muscles." Tavella says, "Our system allows disabled people to communicate with outside world by controlling the machines with thoughts."
The researchers designed a special cap for the use. ②它从我们的大脑接收信号,并且将它们传送到电脑上。The computer receives the signals and starts to command the wheelchair after a short while.
Prof. Millan, the team leader, says scientists keep improving the computer software that gets brain signals and turns them into simple commands. "The practical possibilities that BCI technology offers to disabled people can be grouped in two kinds: communication and controlling machines. One example is this wheelchair."
He says his team has set a main goal. That is to test with real patients so as to prove that this is such a technology they can benefit from.
We can expect that such a technology will be used in the near future to make the life of the disabled much easier.
