Every coin has two sides, advertisements also dose. We will start by talking about the merits of advertising. Firstly, advertising is informative, which provides the customers with a quick access to the product needed. Secondly, consumers can expect to have a best price by comparing and contrasting the prices and specifications of the commodity advertised by different suppliers.
However, advertising involves some defects and I would like to list two of them here. 11 To be idle or to be busy
Depository of Knowledge? That is what some would call me. Others just call me nerd, geek, dweeb, and the like. To me, tey all mean the same thing: you are different and we don't like you. I have learned to accept this as my fate and seek out others of my kind as they are less likely to shun me away.
So far, my search has yielded few results and I am content with this. Those I have found are popel I feel closely connected to despite having never met them.
Why is it that after living here for over a year, I know no one outside of work or family? Is my life that much that of a hermit? Am I just antisocial or is there something deeper which I am unable to see? The answers to these questions do I seek as well as what my place is in this world. Why the need to start a church ot the help those less fortunate? What is it that keeps me balanced and allows me to see all sides of any dispute, even if I have a vested interest? I don't know any of this, as this is my greates weakness, an inability to advise myself in matters I can answer easily for anyone else.
Many people we know prefer to live a busy life. They enjoy making tight schedules and doing everything in a hurry. They simply like the feeling of being totally engaged in their work. They often stick to one principle: work hard and play hard.
Still, there are other people who find great fun in an idle life. They hate to hurry all the time, arguing that they take their time just to reach high efficiency. In fact, most of them are productive despite their loose schedules, and only a few live a non-productive life. Feeling empty at heart, they kill time in various ways.
5 How to Solve the Housing Problem in Big Cities
Housing problem has become one of the biggest concerns for people in big cities. With the rapid development of industry and great increase in employment, more people are swarming into cities. Accommodations have become ever difficult, causing inconvenience to people's work and life.
Many proposals have been put forward to solve this problem. Some suggest that more high buildings be constructed. Some insist that the underground be developed. Others propose that satellite cities be built. Still others argue that cities should be expanded to move people to the suburbs.
Personally, I am in favor of building satellite cities in the suburbs. For one thing, these cities are not far away from big cities. It is still very convenient for people to go downtown as they wish. For another, the fresh air and adequate space there will be a great attraction for people who are living in crowded cities. If many people move to the satellite cities, the housing problem in big cities will cease to exist. I am against the idea of developing the underground. Because compared with building satellite cities, it is more costly. With each house to light even at daytime, we need a lot of electricity. Besides, it witt deprive people of the fresh air and bright sunshine which they can get so easily when they are above the ground.
9 The Reading Population in China
The bar chart illustrates the gradual decline in the number of Chinese people reading books between 1999 and 2005. According to the graph, in 1999, more than 60% of Chinese people practiced certain readings. The percentage dropped dramatically to 54% in 2001, and continued to decrease until 2005 by nearly 6%. Why do less and less Chinese people read books?
The reasons may boil down to the following factors. For one thing, Chinese people, especially the young, are now experiencing an unprecedented competition. They are struggling hard to accomplish their daily work, leaving no time and energy for reading. For another, modern society provides various channels ranging from television to the Internet for people to effortlessly get whatever information they need.
Nevertheless, we cannot afford to be blind to the problem of the decrease in popularity of books among people, especially the young generation. To my mind, nothing can equal the benefits derived from reading. In one sense, books are no less necessary to our mental life than air is to our physical life. People should make it a rule to do some reading each day. Time-consuming as it may be, reading will inevitably exert profound influences on a person, a community and a nation.
18 Should University Students Rent Houses Off the Campus?
Recent years have witnessed an increasing trend in university students' renting houses off campus. It is no surprise that an army of college students move into the neighborhood housing around university campuses.
This idea of living off campus finds an echo among the students who believe it gives more freedom to them. As is natural, as far as school dormitories are concerned, students are confined to a small living circle. What's more, student dormitories are hardly furnished with modern facilities such as TV sets and washrooms, which is simply inconvenient for the students.
Not everyone, however, shares this feeling. Those who view this phenomenon the other way round maintain that this practice may result in the chaos of the universities’ disciplining their students, who are still in the passage into maturity. In addition, it may also add extra financial burden to those students’ families.
As for me, I choose living off campus over staying on campus not only because it provides more freedom and allows more privacy, but because it helps present the world outside the ivory tower to the students.
20 Studying Abroad
In recent years, studying abroad has become more and more popular. Tens of thousands of students are trying their best to apply to go abroad.
Attending schools abroad has many advantages. In the first place, we can best see the strong points and weak points of our nation and therefore broaden our minds. Second, while studying in a foreign country, we can travel widely, making friends with the local people. Thirdly, we can use the foreign language every day to improve it quickly. But the most important thing in attending a foreign university is to get acquainted with the latest knowledge in science and technology. For all these advantages, it is really worthwhile to go abroad for education.
However, as everything has two sides, there are also some disadvantages. The most serious problem is the language barrier. Most students who are ready to go abroad do not have adequate knowledge of the language spoken there. As a result, on arriving there, they find it difficult to understand what the instructors are saying. Besides, lack of knowledge of the customs and way of life of the local people can also be a serious problem. Furthermore, financial pressure may divert many students' attention from their studies since they need to work part time to pay the expenses there.
On the whole, it is a good thing to go and study abroad particularly when the subject is very weak or not available in our country. But on the other hand, one must not lose sight of the disadvantages.

10 The Battle Against AIDS in China
“The country is estimated to have 50,000 new infections in 2007, down from 70,000 new cases in 2005,” according to the "2007 China AIDS Prevention and Treatment Assessment Report" issued in Beijing on Thursday， Of the new infections, 44.7 percent will come from heterosexual transmission, 12.2 percent from men having sex with men, 42 percent from intravenous drug use, and 1.1 percent from mother-to-infant transmission,” In China, on the whole, AIDS has a low infection ratio. Recently, much concern has been stressed on the problem. Both government and the public take the campaign against AIDs in China, which is encouraging. Firstly, we have not got the solutions to the crisis but until there is a cure for AIDS, education represents the only safe measure to guard against the virus. It is necessary to make more people informed about the AIDs, especially, the transmission routes of HIV/ AIDs infections. Secondly, The Central government should pay more attention to the AIDs. To our delight, the Chinese leadership was strengthening its commitment to HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment at different levels of the government, “The amount spent in 2007 had risen to 944 million yuan (US$126 million), from 854 million yuan in 2006 (US$114 million)”, Chen Zhu, China's Minister of Health speaks at a press conference in Beijing, November 29, 2007. Thirdly, civil societies, as well as businesses, have played a fundamental role in the design and development of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS. And more organizations like these are expected to join the campaign against AIDs. Fourthly, the work of governments, organizations and businesses has been followed by the very high activity of people—as singles, families, and communities, which are important power against the AIDs.
This is an undeclared war that everyone must sign up for in order for us to win. We simply cannot let people continue to die because we don't feel comfortable talking about AIDS. Everyone must become an educator and learn to live.
19 Aid Education in China
Each year, college students, encouraged to aid students in the poverty-stricken areas, volunteer themselves in poor villages for a year and try to improve education in poor areas.
Aid-education has been beneficial in two aspects. On the one hand, college volunteers are really devoted to the cause. They have opened the eyes of students in underdeveloped regions to the outside world by bringing them new knowledge and thoughts. As a result, they are extremely well-received by the children there. On the other hand, college students have received a rigorous training by adapting to the harsh living conditions. They are enjoying the appreciation and no-distance friendship from the children. What’s more, they are greatly inspired by the moving and tireless spirit of the children.
In my opinion, China’s educational development can’t be isolated from each individual and we college students should take the lead in response to the appeal for offering aid to children in poor areas.
20 Studying Abroad or Home
Nowadays, with the development of science and technology, more and more people want to study abroad. There are students from colleges and universities, from the middle schools, from the primary schools, and people from all walks of life. What difference does it make between studying abroad and studying home ?
Though many students are crazy about going abroad to pursue their higher education, I think studying home is preferable. For one thing, you don’t have to take foreign language tests such as TOEFL and GRE . With the development of information techno1ogy and reduced price of communication products, the mobi1e phone has become a necessity for most people. We will never miss any important meetings，great deals or admirable opportunities.

16 my opinion on campus love
Campus love isn‘t a newly-born phenomenon. Some people are strongly against it while some others think it‘s natural. I don‘t advocate it. The reasons are as follows. First of all, undergraduates are neither fully psychologically mature nor able to assume the responsibility, especially freshmen and sophomores.
Second, they may indulge in it, thus dilapidate their study, which isn‘t rare. Third, some just take advantage of it to kill time, avoid boredom with much time at their own disposals, have someone keep company, etc. What‘s more, some change dating "partners" frequently, holding a paradox opinion that they could show off their charm or accumulate experience, but more often than not, they would leave a bad impression, such as lacking the sense of responsibility, on others, especially their former sweethearts. Last, the proportion of successful couples is too low. The overwhelming majority reach the same end-parting just before graduation, forced by reality, etc.
So, look before you leap, discard campus love and make a wiser decision after graduation.
