People have been passionate about roses since the beginning of time.In fact, it is said that the floors of
Cleopatra's palace were carpeted with delicate rose petals, and that the wise and knowing Confucius had a 600-book library specifically, on how to care roses.
The rose is a legend on its own. The story goes that during the Roman Empire, there was an incredibly
beautiful maiden named Rhodanthe. Her beauty drew many zealous suitors who pursued her relentlessly. Exhausted by their pursuit, Rhodanthe was forced to take refuge from her suitors in the temple of her friend Diana. Unfortunately, Diana became jealous. And when the suitors broke down her temple gates to get near their beloved Rhodanthe, she became angry turning Rhodanthe into a rose and her suitors into thorns.
In Greek legend, the rose was created by Chiloris, the Greek goddess of flowers. It was just a lifeless seed of a nymph that Chloris found one day in a clearing.in the woods. She asked the help of Aphrodite, the goddess of love, who gave her beauty.Dionysus, the god of wine, added nectar to gove her a sweet scent, and the three Graces gave her charm, brightness and joy: hen Zephyr, the West Wind, blew away the clouds so that Apollo, the sun god, could shine and made this flower bloom. And so the Rose was born and was immediately crowned the Queen of Flowers.
The first true primary red rose seen in Europe was "Slater's Crimson China" introduced in 1792 from China, where it had been growing wild in the mountains.Immediately, rose breeders began using it to hybridize red roses for cultivation.Ever since, the quest for the perfect red rose has been the dream of rose gardeners: formed rose with a clear non-fading vivid red color.Absolute perfection still hasn't been attained, and of course never will!

Thank you.President Bok, former President Rudenstine, incoming President Faust, members of the Harvard Corporation and the Board of Overseers, members of the faculty, parents, and especially, the graduates.
I want to thank Harvard for this honor.I've been waiting more than 30 years to say this: "Dad, I always told you I'd come back and get my degree," I'II be changing my job next year, and it will be nice to finally have a college degree on my resume.I guess that makes me valedictorian of my own special class.l did the best of everyone who failed.
I applaud the graduates for taking a much more direct route to your degrees. For my part, I'm just happy that the Crimson called me "Harvard's most successful dropout.
"But taking a serious look back, I do have one big regret, I left Harvard with no real awareness of the awful inequities (不公正) in the world.I learned a lot here at Harvard about new ideas in economics and politics.I got great exposure to the advances being made in the sciences. But humanity's greatest advances are not in its discoveries-but in how those discoveries are applied to reduce inequity.Whether through democracy, strong public education, quality health care, or broad economic opportunity, reducing inequity is the highest human achievement.
I left campus knowing little about the millions of young people cheated out of educational opportunities here in this country. And I knew nothing about the millions of people living in unspeakable poverty and disease in developing countries. It took me decades to find out.
You graduates came to Harvard at a different time. You know more about the world's inequities than the classes that came before. In your years here, I hope you've had a chance to think about how, in this age of accelerating technology, we can finally take on these inequities, and we can solve them.
Now, this task is open-ended.It can never be finished. But a conscious effort to answer this challenge can change the world.Yes, inequity has been with us forever, but the new tools we have to cut through complexity have not been with us forever. They are new. They can help us make the most of our caring-and that's why the future can be different from the past. The defining and ongoing innovations of this age-biotechnology, the personal computer, and the Internet give us a chance we've never had before to end extreme poverty and end death from preventable disease.

People born in the winter are more likely to suffer mental health disorders, according to a recent study carried out by researchers at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee.
Researchers raised baby mice from birth to weaning(断奶) in either "summer" light cycles of 16 hours of light and eight hours of dark or "winter" cycles of eight hours of light and 16 hours of dark.A third group experienced 12 hours flight and 12 hours of dark a day,
Then half the winter mice stayed in a winter cycle, while half switched to a summer schedule. The summer mice were similarly split. The mice raised in equal periods flight and dark were split into three groups, one of which stayed on the 12-hour schedule, one of which joined the winter group, and one of which joined the summer subset.
After 28 days, it turns out the summer-born mice behaved the same whether they stayed on the summer cycle or switched to winter. But among the winter-oorn mice, those stayed in winter kept their previous schedule, while those that switched to summer stayed active for an extra hour and a half, which indicates that mice born and weaned in a winter light cycle showed dramatic disruptions in their biological clocks.
The finding is the first of its kind in mammals, and it could explain why people born in the winter are at higher risk for mental health disorders including bipolar depression, schizophrenia and seasonal affective disorder.
"We know that the biological clock regulates mood in humans, " said study researcher McMahon."If an imprinting mechanism(运行机制) similar to the one that we found inmice operates in humans, then it could not only have an effect on a number of behavioral disorders, but also have a more general effect on personality."
66.How many groups of mice are there finally in all in the experiment?

China's economy has enjoyed an annual growth of 10 percent over the past 30 years, but how long can such high-speed growth last?
According to studies by the Development Research Center of the State Council, China's growth pattern is similar to that of Germany, which experienced a slow down in the late 1960s,Japan, which experienced a slow down in the early 1970s, and the South Korea, which experienced a slow down in the late 1990s.There are already signs emerging that China's growth rate will slow in the next few years.
First, infrastructure(基础设施) investment, the most important engine of growth, is declining as a proportion of total investment. In 2006, it was more than 30 percent, while it dropped to around 22 percent in 2011.As China's high growth rate is mainly driven by its huge investment in infrastructure, and infrastructure investment drops, the growth rate will slow.
Second, in the last three years, the growth rate of the provinces and municipalities with good economic performance along the southeast coast, whose total GDP accounts for more than half of the national GDP, has lagged behind other regions.
Third, people are worried about potential risks in local governments' financing platforms and in the real estate market. To be more specific, people are conceded whether their investments in these areas will pay off.According to our research, the potential gains in these areas are not particularly great.
Taking all these signs into consideration, it seems the transition from high-speed growth to intermediate-speed growth may have already began.
Although some may have a pessimistic view of the slow down, it is actually a normal pattern of economic growth.
However, some officials, especially those from local governments, believe the slowing down is a result of government policies, and that if we need to, we can introduce stimulus policies to speed up the growth rate. But this belief incorrect. As the growth rate is already slowing, if we apply administrative means to speed up the growth rate, it may work for a short period but it will not last for long, and may even have severe unwanted consequences. For example, the government in Japan tried to stimulate its economy in the late 1980s, but this led to asset bubbles and long-term economic recession. It is a lesson we should heed.
Our estimate for China's economic growth in the intermediate-speed period is around 6 to 7 percent, which the country has the potential to maintain for 10, 15 or even 20 years.During the transition period over the next two to three years we hope to see a stable annual growth rate of8 to 9 percent.
71.According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true?
A.infrastructure investment has a great effect on China's economic growth rate.
B.China's economic growth pattern is similar to that of the South Korea, which experienced a slow down in the late 1990s.
C.in the last three years, the eenomic growth rate of southeast coast area has fallen behind other regions.
D.it's thought that the slow down of China's economy is due to government policies.
72.The writer thinks it for China to experience a slow down.
A.worrying B.shameful C.painful D.normal
73.It can be inferred from the passage that .
A.Japan has experienced a slow down since the early 1970s.
B.in 2011, China's infrastructure investment dropped by at least eight percent compared to that in 2006.
C.people's investment will certainly pay off though potential gains are not particularly great.
D.most of people have a pessimistic view of economic slow down.
74.We can read the passage in the part of a newspaper.
A.science B.business C.comment D.education
75.What's the following passage likely to talk about?
A.how China can improve its competitiveness during the transition period.
B.how people will invest during the transition period.
C.how long high-speed growth in China can last after bubbles and long-term economic recession.
D.the economic development of other countries.

Scientists have shown that there is a degree of truth in the old saying that love is blind. They have found that feelings of love lead to a suppression(抑制)of activity in the areas of the brain controlling critical thought. It seems that once we get close to a person, the brain decides the need’ to assess their character and personality is reduced. The study, by University College London, is published in NeuroImage.
The researchers found that romantic love and maternal(母性的) love the brain. They both suppress neural (神经的) activity associated with critical social assessment of other people and negative emotions. The UCL team scanned the brains of 20 young mothers while they viewed pictures of their own children, children they were acquainted with, and adult friends. The team found that the patters of brain activity were very similar to those identified in an earlier study looking at the effects of romantic love. Both studies recorded increased activity in parts of the brain's reward system. More surprisingly, however, both studies also showed reduced levels of activity in the systems necessary for making negative judgments.
Lead researcher Dr Andreas Bartels said it was crucial that romantic and maternal love were viewed by the brain in a highly positive way because both were crucial to the perpetuation (永恒) of the species.
