一、定义及构成
1一般过去时主要用来表示过去发生的动作或存在的状态，是谈论过去时最常见的一个时态。
She was here a minute ago. 她前一分钟还在这里。
George came in just now. 乔治刚刚进来过。
2、规则动词的过去式
规则动词的过去式有四种构成方法，它不随人称的变化而变化。
1）多数是由动词原形词尾加-ed构成：
ask He asked me a question.
want We wanted to go on holiday.
2）如果规则动词的原形以-e结尾，则只在其后加-d, 而不加-ed:
arrive They arrived late for every meeting.
live He lived here three years ago.
3）如果规则动词以重读闭音节结尾，末尾只有一个辅音字母，则双写最后一个辅音字母再加-ed:
plan He planned to go to the party.
stop He stopped to do the housework.
4）以辅音字母加-y结尾的规则动词，先变y为i再加-ed:
try He tried a few minutes.
study They studied English last year.
以辅音字母加-y结尾的规则动词就直接加-ed:
play He played the piano in the class.
stay We stayed at home that morning.
5）以"一个元音+l"结尾的词，英国人双写，美国人不双写：
travel-----travelled, traveled marvel----marvelled, marveled
l前若有两个元音，一概不双写：
reveal----revealed appeal----appealed

二、时间状语
一般过去时时常与表示过去的时间状语连用，常见的有：yesterday, yesterday morning/ afternoon/ evening (= last night), the day before yesterday; …ago（……之前）, an hour ago, five
years ago, three seconds ago; last…, last week/ year/ Monday/ May/ night;
in 1910;just now (= a moment ago);this morning等等。
例：He (get) up at six yesterday.
三、动词形式：一般过去时主要由动词的过去式体现，动词过去式一般没有人称和数的变化。其中BE动词的过去时有was/ were 两种形式，而行为动词的过去式则有规则变化与不规则变化之分，需熟练掌握并牢记。
四、句式结构
1、BE动词的过去时：
肯定句：主语+was/ were +其它成分，如：Jim was at home yesterday.
否定句；主语+was / were + not +其它成分，如：They were not here just now.
一般疑问句：Was/ Were + 主语+ 其他成分？如：Was Kate 11 years old last year?
特殊疑问句：特殊疑问词+ was/ were+主语+ 其他成分？如：Where were the boys five minutes ago?
例： My brother was in the park just now.
否定句：__________________________________________
一般疑问句：________________________________________
对划线部分提问：____________________________________
2、 行为动词的过去时：
肯定句：主语+动词过去式 +其它成分，如：Jack did his homework last night.
否定句；主语+didn’t+ 动词原形 +其它成分，如：Jack didn’t do his homework last night.
一般疑问句：Did + 主语+动词原形+ 其他成分？Did Jack do his homework last night?
特殊疑问句：特殊疑问词+did +主语+动词原形+ 其他成分？What did Jack do last night?
例： She had some bread( 面包) for lunch today.
否定句：__________________________________________

对划线部分提问：____________________________________
但对主语提问时除外，直接用 Who+动词过去式 +其它成分?如：Who closed the door yesterday?
