Comparing the figures in Chinese and western myths, we can find that the gods in western myths are almost with special trait in physics, while the Chinese are not. In this passage, I will show some reasons on the differences. 

Greece is around the mediterranean sea,and there are lots of mountain on land. Lack of farmland, they must seek for food in the ocean. In conquering nature ,they acquire special ability separately. People admire those who own special skills or large physical strength! Due to this , some figure of gods come into being, and in their mind ,this gods will help them develop well.

And meanwhile, in the long history of conquering the sea , people longing for freedom, and they give much freedom to gods. So ,gods are not so perfect.

While Chinese culture formed in the river Huang and Yangtze,full of  water for irrigation and fertile field to plant , our ancestor became more and more conservative. 

When countries came into being , the leader should collect the power into himself in order to rule people. And by coincidence, the man live in the river culture are likely to accept the rule,rather than resist. We accept the fact that the king are hereditary. 

Similarly, the gods almost have no special traits in their physics. It seems as the gods in Chinese culture were born with their ability. Just because the advantageous geographical condition, we lose our rebellion,we give the gods lots of abilities in no extra requirement. Further more , we think the gods as perfect!

You may disagree in my opinion. Because the myths formed far earlier than country,let alone the feudal society. But the culture and the spread of myths tale always be changed and reformed in the history. The long feudal society must have effect on the myths. 

Of  course in western history, the despotism is also common to see. But due to the geographical factors , the effect to people’s ideas that feudal despotism have  is less than in China.

In  western ancient, there are some philosophers like Socrates and Plato. These philosophers’ ideas were not taken to govern people. In reverse , thanks to these ideas ,people could think freely . 

In Chinese ,however, over the “baijiazhengming” times, the theory of 

Confucius is quickly used by the king Liu Che. The philosophers’ ideas  restrict to the development of culture, instead of promoted. 下载本文
