“ Everyone in our society is an economical man”, said by Adam Smith, the founder of political economics in our history, which apparently stresses the significance of learning about knowledge of economics. When it comes to whether all high school students should be required to take economic courses, as far as I am concerned, I wholeheartedly agree that it is quite necessary for students acquire these facets of knowledge.

To begin with, taking economic classes allows high school students get comprehensive knowledge. What I mean is that students not only can learn those traditional courses such as math, chemistry, but also have an opportunity to receive some practical knowledge like economics, both of them broaden their vision and promote better understanding of the world.  Students who have learned “the Wealth of Nation” will realize the mechanism  of capital market, who know the reason and impact of inflation definitely understand why our future money is less valuable than that of today. Therefore, it is meaningful for young students acquire all these knowledge and receive a well-round education. 

In addition, everyone involve in economic activities no matter what his or her vocation is. For instance, in this day and age, individuals have more extra earnings which can be used to make an investment. It has been a common phenomenon that a myriad of office workers pay attention to the stock market , determining which stock to buy and analyzing how to maximum their profits. If students have a good sense of economic facts, they would make more reasonable and sensible investment decision in their later life instead of following blindly what others did. 

Also, providing economic courses paves the road for students’ college study. Nowadays parents have to tend to push students to choose their majors such as Finance, Accounting, or Economics, as these seem a promising field for students to earn money and live a wealth life. But students who take economic classes will get know whether they really interest in the subject or not ,and if they are suited to study this. then they could make their own decisions about the choice of major, which is beneficial to their future career. 

However, some people may argue that the courses of high school have already been too much ,and students have to spend a lot of time to finish assignment, prepare for exams and review reading materials, how could school lay more burden to these tired and exhausted students ? it is quite appropriate concerns to some extent, but schools can just ease the workload of economic courses, like reducing the homework, allowing students to take open-book exams, since the essence of this course is to widen the students’ vision.

In a nutshell, learning economic courses, students will get a well-rounded knowledge, it also possible that students who interested in this subject will perform well in their future study, beside, it is undeniable that this courses will be conducive to everyone since all of us have to involve in economic activities. Therefore ,I strongly agree that all high school students should take economic courses. 下载本文
