　　Who is "雷锋 (léi fēng)" ?

　　雷锋 (léi fēng) was a soldier in the community army who was well known for his selflessness, modesty, and devotion to Chairman Mao Zedong. After his death in 1962, the communist party launched a national propaganda campaign, "Learn from Comrade Lei Feng," which made him into a household name.

　　There are many stories surrounding Lei Feng's good deeds: giving free haircuts, helping old ladies, and volunteering.Lei Feng's name lives on in Chinese culture as a kind-hearted, helpful person.

　　In mainland China, March 5th is the official "Learn from Lei Feng Day," when students and communities organize volunteer events such as cleaning up the park, or feeding the hungry.

　　Today, 雷锋 (léi fēng) is more than just a name in China. He is hailed as a cultural icon, symbolizing selflessness and spirit of "serving for the people".His name creeps into people's hearts, daily conversation, music, even movies; his imagery can be found on cups, T-shirts, and bags. There's the Lei Feng Model Bus, Lei Feng Model Student, Lei Feng Class, Lei Feng Nursery, Lei Feng Village, just to name a few.

　　Recently, the movie "Youth( 芳华/fānghuá )",directed by Feng xiagang(冯小刚), was keeping screening in the cinema and hit memories of millions of moviegoers due to its bittersweet story from 1970s to 1990s. It depicted a "leifeng-spirit" character.

　　The hero in this movie, "Liufeng(刘峰)" is dubbed by his military art troupe "活雷锋(huó léi fēng)", with the meaning of "living leifeng". He helped everyone without expecting anything in return. The words you heard a lot about him is:

　　nǐ zhēn shi yí ge huó léi fēng

　　You really are a living Lei Feng!
