Educational improvement as the heatedly discussed issue has been controversial since it was raised up. Because of its crucial position in the modern social development, the public and authorities are concerned with the educational quality under scrutiny. As the issue is caught by such attention, some educators propose to raise teacher's salary, a simple and direct way to propel the process of the quality improvement. Rational seems the plan from economic perspective, but obviously better alternatives could reach the final goal. Several points in different dimensions will be demonstrated and explained to testify my hypothesis.
First of all, a question hanging over my head, what elements decide the quality of the education? “Best” way should exploit teacher, students and facilities comprehensively instead of narrowing to one factor. This is the fundamental drawback of the proposal. Not only the teachers but also the students should be motivated to avoid the negative response from students. Assuming that a group of students born with silver spoon have none of interest in learning, then a high salary teacher who is highly energetic just means nothing. In another word, high salary teacher doesn’t equal to motivated students.
Learning is such an intricate project that utilizes both the teaching and the learning tools. Facilities such as libraries benefit the students in another way which reinforce what they were taught during the class time and provide a place to explore the uncovered. Pitching investment in the fundamental facilities could diversify the learning pattern and enhance the quality of education after class. Indispensible are the feedback and review for students, therefore, constructing the new learning facilities stimulate the motivation and efficiency of learning, on the other hand, the need of people who are willing to study could also be satisfied.
In addition, most teachers who devote themselves to the career worship that teaching is a noble thing. Raising salary to spur them might result in the chaos of the industry, causing people to chase after money instead of job satisfaction. Demerits will overweigh the merits if the plan executed. Budget should be assigned to training fees of teachers to guarantee that they are competent and capable of their duties. Educational improvement could be realized only if the resources were allocated appropriately.
Finally, I would like to emphasize that increasing the salary is a good way to improve the quality of education but not the best way. As I mentioned, considering the whole influencing factors to come up with a well-rounded plan is the primary direction to the educators and authorities.
