A

Many scientists say that the world is getting warmer and warmer. If they are right, the ice at the North and South Poles will melt（融化） in the future. If this happens, the sea will rise and may over most or all of Singapore（新加坡）. This makes everyone to move to safe countries. 

We know that the sun heats the earth. The heat from the sun heats the grounds, and some of it goes back into the sky. However, factories and cars, trucks and buses made a lot of harmful gases. When the gases rise into the sky, heat from the sun can come through them but heat from the grounds can not. It stays near us in the sky and makes the air hotter and hotter every year.

Scientists call this the “greenhouse effect”, because a greenhouse is a small glass building which is hot inside. It is used for growing plants in cool countries. Many countries are worried about the greenhouse effect. They are trying to stop the factories from sending harmful gases into the sky. Some people say that the green house effect has started already, but scientists are not sure when the world will get much hotter.

I remembered many interesting things when I was a doctor. But there was one terrible thing always staying in my mind.
