China is going green. In order to reduce air pollution and oil-shortages, carmakers have announced their plans to develop hybrid (混合燃料) cars for the Chinese market. Toyota’s hybrid car Prius will be ready to drive in China this week. Let’s have a look at the new car.
Any vehicle is a hybrid when it combines two or more sources of power. Hybrid cars run on a rechargeable battery and gasoline (汽油). Hybrid cars have special engines, which are smaller than traditional gasoline engines. They run at 99 percent of their power when the car is going at a steady speed. A specially designed battery meteor provides extra power for running up hills or when extra acceleration is needed.
Step into a Prius, and turn on the engine. The first thing you notice is how much quieter it is than a traditional car. At this point, the car’s gasoline engine is at rest. The electric motor will provide power until the car reaches about 24 km/h. if you stay at a low speed, you are effectively driving an electric car, with no gasoline being used, and no waste gas gives off.
The computer makes the decision about when to use a gas engine, when to go electric and when to use a combination of the two. If you go over 24km/h, when you step on the gas, you are actually telling the computer how fast you want to go.
The electronic motor recharges automatically using a set of batteries. When driving at a high speed, the gasoline engine not only powers the car, but also charges the batteries. Any time you use the brake, the electric motor in the wheels will work like a generator (发电机) and produce electricity to recharge the batteries. As a result, the car’s batteries will last for around 200, 000 miles.
59.The underline sentence probably refers to ______.
A.there will be more and more green land in China.
B.China’s new cars are combinations of different green models.

A.the gasoline engine charges the batteries as well as powering the car.
B.using the brake suggests that the gasoline engine should work.
C.the car’s batteries will last for around 200, 000 miles without being recharged.
D.the batteries can be recharged at any time you want.
62.The author writes this passage mainly to ______.
A.announce plans to develop hybrid vehicles for the Chinese market.

Every kid wishes to be an adult. Do you remember playing houses as a child —— pretending to be a grow-up like your parents? Did you imagine you were a doctor, a soldier or a teacher? At that time, anyting seemed more exciting than being young.
But now as grown-ups, some adults find they cannot leave childhood behind. They become “kidults” (kid + adult). Being a kidult has become a lifestyle choice among young people across Asia. Some kidults collect toys they once played with. Hello Kitty, Garfield, and Snoopy have many adult fans around the world. It is not unusual to see a 20-something woman with a big, Garfield-shaped cushion on her sofa or a Hello Kitty mobile phone accessory (饰物). Other kidults still enjoy children’s stories and fairy tales. For example, even an edition of the Harry Potter novels with an adult cover came out in Britain. That way, no one else on the subway will know that an adult is actually reading a children's book!
“Kidults can be like vitamins to society. Adults who value their childhood and hold on to pure, child-like emotion may be needed in such a rough and dry society,” said a professor in a Korean University. He added that kidult culture might fill the generation gap between adults and kids. It could give children and their parents books, movies, and cartoon shows to enjoy together.
Tim Greenhalgh, a professor in London explained that some kidults just refuse to grow up. They cling to (舍不得放弃) childhood because life in a busy and stressful city frightens them. Kidults would like to forget their age and openly show their fear of society and adulthood.
“So, they an escape from increasingly complex and stressful lives that are hard to deal with.” Greenhalgh said.
63.We can know from the passage that kidults are ______.
A.children who can’t wait to grow up.
B.grown-ups who hold on to child-like emotion.
C.people who enjoy playing sports.
D.young people who pretended to be grown-ups when young.
.According to the passage, kidults would like to do the following except ______?
A.buy Hello Kitty mobile phone accessories.
B.read a children’s book on the subway.
C.work in a busy and stressful city.
D.collect toys they once played with.
65.In the opinion of the professor in a Korean University, kidults are ______?
A.immature and weak.
B.necessary to our society.
C.looked down upon.
D.getting more and more.
66.The main reason of the kidult culture lies in that ______.
A.some companies are taking advantage of it.
B.modern life is stressful and hard.
C.some people like to stay young and energetic.
D.some people wish to bridge the generation gap.

In cities with rent control, the city government sets the maximum rent that a landlord (房东) can charge for an apartment. Supporters of rent control argue that it protects people who are living in apartments. Their rent cannot increase; therefore, they are not in danger of losing their homes. However, the critics say that after a long time, rent control may have negative (负面的) effects. Landlords know that they cannot increase their profits. Therefore, they invest (投资) in other businesses where they can increase their profits. They do not invest in new buildings which would also be rent-controlled. As a result, new apartments are not built. Many people who need apartments cannot find any. According to the critics, the end result of rent control is a shortage of apartments in the city.
Some theorists argue that the minimum wage law can cause problems in the same way. The federal government sets the minimum that an employer must pay workers. The minimum helps people who generally look for unskilled, low-paying jobs. However, if the minimum is high, employers may hire fewer workers. They will replace workers with machinery. Therefore, other things being equal, the number of workers that employers want decreases. Thus, critics hold the opinion that an increase in the minimum wage may cause unemployment. Some poor people may find themselves without jobs instead of with jobs at the minimum wage.
Supporters of the minimum wage say that it helps people keep their dignity (尊严). Because of the law, workers cannot sell their services for less than the minimum. Furthermore, employers cannot force workers to accept jobs at unfair wages.
Economic theory predicts the results of economic decisions such as decisions about farm production, rent control, and the minimum wage. The predictions may be correct only if “other things are equal”. Economists do not agree on some of the predictions. They also do not agree on the value of different decisions. Some economists support a particular decision while others criticize it. Economists do agree, however, that there are no simple answers to economic questions.
67.There is the possibility that setting maximum rent may ______.
A.cause a shortage of apartments.
B.worry those who rent apartments as homes.
C.increase the profits of landlords.
D.encourage landlords to invest in building apartment.
68.We can safely say that rent control ______.
A.will always benefit those who rent apartments.
B.is unnecessary.
C.will bring negative effects in the long run.
D.is necessary under all circumstances.
69.The problem of unemployment will arise if ______.
A.the minimum wage is set too high.
B.The minimum wage is set too low.
C.The workers are unskilled.
D.The maximum wage is set.
70.The passage tells us about ______.
A.the relationship between supply and demand.
B.the possible results of government controls.

D.Economists usually have the same prediction about an economic decision.

Until the doctor told me that I might go blind, the future spread before me in all directions. My paintings had been shown in New York galleries (艺术馆). I enjoyed the hours in my studio. But now everything was shadowed with fear.
One day, after I showed photos of my paintings to Ron, who was an eye doctor and sculptor (雕塑家), he asked me to go to his school and show slides of my work to his students with developmental disorders.
The next day, when I arrived at the school, I found one student was in the art room already waiting, a young man in a wheelchair. His head was held up by wires. His fingers were bent backward. When I came in, his eyes met mine. A burst of voltage (电压) passed from him to me.
Two other students arrived, one of them wheeled in by Ron, who had invited me. This boy’s arms were lashed (猛击) to his wheelchair.
“Tim is a professional artist,” Ron told the group, “and is here to share his ideas.” Ideas? Getting free of the limitations of the physical world —— that was the point of my paintings. Was I supposed to share this with people in the wheelchairs? Nervously I showed slides of my paintings. You make art to say something you can’t say with words, I explained. These paintings might be about being held down, and getting free.
After I showed the last slide, Ron said, “Maybe Tim will come and visit again. What do you say?” he asked me. I looked at the man with the wired head. When our eyes met, he nodded with a slight movement of his head.
The next few nights, I lay awake thinking about the million things these people could not do: climb a tree, hold a spoon, or turn the pages of a book. Yet there was that light in their eyes. What would they tell us if they had the power?
Then I called the school and reached the director of the arts program. “I was there a week ago, showing slides of my paintings in Ron’s class. I was wondering if I could come back.” “To help with the class?” she asked.
“No,” I said. “To start a new one.”

74.The students that the writer showed slides of his work to were ______.

第二节、作文
Possible version:
Dear editor,
I’m writing to tell you about the discussion we held on whether it is good to keep animals in zoos. Those who favor the idea think it provides chances for people to see wild animals. It might also develop people’s love for animals and nature. Besides, animals in zoos can be protected from dangers in the wild.
However, those who are against the idea think that it’s a waste of money and labor to keep animals in zoos. It’ll also damage the balance of nature. Animals will lose their freedom if caged in zoos.
I personally feel it is wrong to take animals away from their natural living areas and keep them locked up.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
