2. It’s hot. Let’s have a swim.
3. Would you like to come to my birthday party, Jacky?
4. What do you do for a living?
5. ---What are you going to do tomorrow?
---I’m going to play a trick on Sandy.
6. ---This is Alice speaking, may I speak to John?
---Oh, I’m sorry; he is on duty at the post office.
7. ---Those place tickets on Tuesday are so expensive. Can’t you find anything better before Friday?
---Well, if we want cheaper tickets, we have to leave on Thursday.
8. ---Oh, my goodness, you must have left the book in the taxi? It's a very good book, you know!
---But I tell you I didn’t take it. I remember clearly. Did you put in our bedroom? Uhh, yeah, on your dressing table.
9. ---Susan, shall we go to the zoo tomorrow?
---Well, I’d love to, but I have to save the morning for an important email. It’s a big deal. I must make a reply, and in the afternoon, I will see Lisa off.
10. ---Do you know the phone number of Star Travel? I want to get some information about the bus trip across the states.
---You don’t have to make a phone call. Right here in our office, we have maps, bus schedules, and email lists for inexpensive hotels. They are for students, you know,
11. ---Did you see the purse, honey?
---Your purse? No. Why the purse? We are not going shopping anyway.
---I know, but our opera tickets are in it.
12. ---Congratulations! I have heard of that you did an excellent job?
---Thanks, I have put a lot of time into it.
13. ---I’m trying to get on flight FA3O36, am I on time?
---Not exactly. It’s three twenty now. But luckily for you, that flight is being delayed.
---I never thought I’d be happier about a delay. But hey, that’s great news.
---Ok, just may I check your luggage and your tickets, please?
---Here you are. Which gate do I leave from?
--- Gate 38. But I’m sorry to tell you that it’s been changed to gate 5. And you plane is taking off in twenty minutes.
---Oops, I have to run with my two kids.
14. ---Mr. Parker, when did you arrive home yesterday evening?
---At about eight o’clock.
---What did you do after you entered your flat?
---Well, I washed my hands, and then I watched sports news.
---When did you have supper?
---At about a quarter to nine, I guess.
---Did you stay at home all evening?
---Yes.
---But your friend said that he phoned you several times between 8 and 9, but you didn’t answer.
---Well, I think I was in the bath at that time.
---No, you weren’t. You were not even at home last night. You robbed a bank in James St.
15. ---Hi, Mom!
---There you are! I’m getting worried. It’s so late.
---Yeah, I ran into a Linda, and we’ve been to a pub. She told me a funny thing.
---Oh, what was that?
---Well, she was driving home after work and she suddenly saw an old lady on her hands and knees in the middle of the road.
---Really?
---Yeah, Linda was so shocked and she stopped suddenly and the car behind crashed into hers.
---Was she hurt?
---No.
---And what was the old lady doing?
---I’m just coming to that. So Linda got out of her car and saw the old lady pick up something and walk away.
---Lucky, indeed. Linda didn’t run her over.
--- Then a policeman came. But he didn’t believe what Linda said.
---Well, luckily, there was a man waiting for a bus. He saw it all. Guess what the old lady was doing?
---I haven’t the slightest idea.
---She was looking for her gold tooth.
---A gold tooth?
---Yeah, (it fell on her shoes when he was crossing the road). The witness heard her saying: “oh, my gold tooth”.

In my spoken English class, I asked the students about their impressions of their school life. To my surprise, many of them were disappointed after their high school lives. They were having trouble finding things to do in the free time in the university. When I ask them to talk about their high school lives, many of them told me they got up at six in the morning and studied until ten at night.
Those of this time were spent at school, doing a large mount of homework to help them prepare for the university entrance exams. Once they entered university, in my opinion, the students shouldn’t spend all their time studying. They should also take part in some afterschool activities, so they should learn to make plans for their time outside of class between sports and clubs. What’s more, they should spend some time watching TV and chatting with their roommates. These activities are useful in helping them prepare for their future. But what made me most surprised was that many of them did not seem particularly happy about their new freedom, as they have so many choices. They felt that no matter what they were doing, they should be doing something else. That’s why they were not happy. To those students, my advice was, get used to it and learn to make decisions for yourselves. 下载本文
