Before discussing different kinds of emotions, let us briefly talk about how researchers 16 bodily processes, actions and behavior, and how this relates to what we do in our daily lives when we observe emotions in 17 .
Bodily processes can be directly measured by 18 of a polygraph. When a polygraph is skillfully used to 19 how we react bodily with what we are 20 , it is called a "lie detector". Bodily processes can also be measured 21 . This is what we do when we observe someone blushing (脸红). However, we are not always 22 of what bodily processes respond to.
Measuring action 23 behavior is the other way researchers assess the emotions. 24 , one measure of fear of snakes is how 25 a person will go to the snake. Another procedure is to have a person 26 how afraid he is, or how he feels, in this way, researchers have 27 theso-called "fear thermometer" to assess a person's fear. 28 our everyday living, we do very much the same thing. Only not too 29 . We react to what a person does, what he says, 30 he says it, and how he looks. Is he smiling? Is his voice trembling? We put all this 31 together to infer what a person is feeling.
32 , we do not always act as we feel. Sometimes we do things that we don't feel like doing.
33 we say we feel one way and then we act another. Actors, for example, successfully learn to "make believe" emotions, or learn to 34 them. Thus we 35 always tell what a person is feeling by what he says or by what he does.

Stephen William Hawking was born on 8 January 1942 (300 years after the death of Galileo) in Oxford, England. His parents' house was in north London, but during the Second World War Oxford was considered a safer place to have babies. When he was eight, his family moved to St Albans, a town about 20 miles north of London. At eleven Stephen went to St Albans School, and then on to University College, Oxford, his father's old college. Stephen wanted to do mathematics, although his father would have preferred medicine. Mathematics was not available at University College, so he did Physics instead. After three years and not very much work he was awarded a first class honours degree in Natural Science.
Stephen then went on to Cambridge to do research in Cosmology, there being no-one working in that area in Oxford at that time. After gaining his Ph.D. he became first a Research Fellow, and later on a Professorial Fellow at Gonville and Caius College. After leaving the Institute of Astronomy in 1973 Stephen came to the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, and since 1979 has held the post of Lucasian Professor of Mathematics. The chair was founded in 1663 with money left in the will of the Reverend Henry Lucas, who had been the Member of Parliament for the University. It was first held by Isaac Barrow, and then in 1663 by Isaac Newton.
Professor Hawking has twelve honorary degrees, was awarded the CBE in 1982, and was made a Companion of Honour in 19. He is the recipient of many awards, medals and prizes and is a Fellow of The Royal Society and a Member of the US National Academy of Sciences.

Vo lunteer work plays an important role in America‟s high school education. A certain number of volunteer hours are a must for high schoolers. Great numbers of high school students are engaged in volunteer work for the purpose of having a promising future.
Volunteer work is a critical part of college applications.
In America, the perfect score is not the only factor to be considered in college admission which becomes more and more competitive. High school students are finding that whether they have impressive volunteer experience or not tends to be a key factor. Princeton University once enrolled a girl who successfully sold a large quantity of girl scout cookies Instead of selling cookies in front of supermarkets or from door by door, the girl walked into a big company and asked to see the CEO. Beginning from the good taste of her cookies, she explained how the money would be used to help poor children and how the company would benefit if he bought her cookies. At last, her courage and wisdom impressed both the CEO and Princeton University.
Volunteering is a great preparation for future careers
Rather than picking a volunteer job randomly (随意的), some high school students choose activities based on potential careers or majors. Kymberly Bays is a high school graduate. Five days after she had received her high school diploma (毕业证书), she embarked on a journey to Africa for six weeks to be a volunteer teacher at a poor school. She also raised $1,000 through a part-time job to buy textbooks for the school. Since Kymberly wants to be a foreign news correspondent, she said the trip to Africa would help her learn more about adapting to foreign places and see how others live.

One trip for their Jack Russell terrier in a plane's cargo hold was enough to convince Alysa Binder and Dan Wiesel that owners needed a better option to get their pets from one city to another.
On Tuesday, the first flight for the husband-and-wife team's Pet Airways, the first-ever all-pet airline, took off from Republic Airport in Farmingdale, NY.
All commercial airlines allow a limited number of small pets to fly in the cabin. Others must travel as checked bags or in the cargo hold — a dark and sometimes dangerous place where temperatures can vary wildly.
Binder and Wiesel used their consulting backgrounds and business savvy to start Pet Airways in 2005. The last four years have been spent designing their fleet of five planes according to new
four-legged requirements, dealing with FAA regulations and setting up airport schedules.
The two say they're overwhelmed with the response. Flights on Pet Airways are already booked up for the next two months.
Pet Airways will fly a pet between five major cities — New York, Washington, Chicago, Denver, and Los Angeles. The $250 one-way fare is comparable to pet fees at the largest US airlines.
For owners the big difference is service. Dogs and cats will fly in the main cabin of a Suburban Air Freight plane, retooled and lined with carriers in place of seats. Pets (about 50 on each flight) will be escorted to the plane by attendants that will check on the animals every 15 minutes during flight. The pets are also given pre-boarding walks and bathroom breaks. And at each of the five airports it serves, the company has created a "Pet Lounge" for future fliers to wait and sniff before flights.
A trip from New York to Los Angeles, for example, will take about 24 hours. On that route, pets will stop in Chicago, have a bathroom break, play time, dinner, and bunk for the night before
finishing the trip the next day.
Amanda Hickey of Portland, Ore. is one of the new airline's first customers. Her seven-year-old terrier-pinscher mix Mardi and 2-year-old puggle Penny are taking their first flight soon.
Hickey said the service was a welcome alternative to flying her dogs in cargo when she transplants them from her soon-to-be Denver home to Chicago to stay while she and her fiance travel to Aruba to get married.
"For a little bit more money, I have peace of mind," she said.

US video game magnate Richard Garriott headed into space aboard a Russian rocket yesterday watched by his father, a NASA astronaut who went into space at the height of the Cold War.
The Russian Soyuz TMA-13 spacecraft lifted off in clear weather from the Baikonur Cosmodrome on the Kazakh steppes just after 1:00 pm local time.
A video game developer from Texas, Garriott paid $35 million to fly into space alongside US astronaut Michael Fincke and Russian cosmonaut Yury Lonchakov.
Garriott's father, Owen, watched the blast off through binoculars on an observation platform and Garriott's girlfriend, Kelly Miller, burst into tears. "I am very happy for him. It is one of the things he really wanted to do," Miller said as others opened champagne to celebrate the successful launch.
"I can see he is really enjoying it like a little kid in the candy shop," Miller said.
Space officials said the Soyuz rocket had reached orbit safely and would dock with the International Space Station (ISS) in about two days.
"He made it, he made it into orbit. It is marvelous," said Owen Garriott, a physicist who was selected as an astronaut by NASA for his scientific background. He spent 60 days in space in 1973 and another ten days in 1983.
After 10 days in space Garriott will return to Earth with the ISS's former crew aboard a Soyuz re-entry vehicle, a three-person capsule which has malfunctioned on its last two flights.
In April, a Soyuz capsule landed 420 km off course after explosive bolts failed to detonatebefore re-entry, sending the craft into a steep descent.

[1]Since we are social beings, the quality of our lives depends in large measure on our interpersonal relationships. One strength of the human condition is our possibility to give and receive support from one another under stressful conditions. Social support makes up of the exchange of resources among people based on their interpersonal ties. Those of us with strong support systems appear better able to deal with major life changes and daily problems. People with strong social ties live longer and have better health than those without such ties. Studies over types of illness, from worry to heart disease, show that the presence of social support helps people defend themselves against illness, and the absence of such support makes poor health more likely.
[2]Social support cushions stress in a number of ways. First, friends, relatives and co-workers may let us know that they value us. Our self-respect is strengthened when we feel accepted by others in spite of our faults and difficulties. Second, other people often provide us with informational support. They help us to define and understand our problems and find solutions to them. Third, we find social companionship supportive. Taking part in free-time activities with others helps us to meet our social needs while at the same time distracting us from our worries and troubles. Finally, other people may give us instrumental support—-money aid, material resources, and needed services —that reduces stress by helping us resolve and deal with our problems.

Countries also use animals as symbols. From eagles to lions, many countries use an animal to show its national spirit and character.
The image of an eagle is on the US President's flag, and on the one-dollar bill. The bald eagle is a large, powerful, brown bird with a white head and tail.
The US declared that the eagle was its national bird in 1782. It was chosen because of "its long life, great strength, and noble looks".
But, one of the Founding Fathers, Benjamin Franklin didn't agree with the choice. "The bald eagle...is a bird of bad moral character; like those among men who live by robbing" he argued. Franklin wanted the turkey as the country's national bird.
If Americans chose their national symbol deliberately(人为地), the symbol of England arose out of history.
King Henry I (1068-1135) was a brave warrior but also wise. He was the first English King to use a lion as a royal symbol, which is popularly known as the "king of the jungle". By the year Richard I, known as "The Lion Heart" for his bravery, came to the throne in 11, the famous Three Lions badge had been formed. Now it can be seen on the shirts of England's sports teams.
Everyone knows about the Australian kangaroo. Legend has it that the kangaroo gets its name from an early meeting between local aborigines and white settlers. When asked by the Europeans what these strange-looking animals were, a native replied "kangaroo" meaning, "I don't understand you."
The kangaroo is an individualistic animal. Although it does gather in groups, the kangaroo is not a herd animal. If a group is attacked, individuals run off in different directions. Australians think the kangaroo represents positive values, such as individual responsibility and pride.

the back of a truck一辆卡车的后背,第一个空用定冠词表示特指;第二个空用不定冠词表示泛指,故选C。

【参】A。
【解题思路】表示否定意义的词not, not only, not until, no sooner, no longer, nowhere, never, hardly, seldom, little, few等在句首时,其后用部分倒装。
take up开始从事;make up编造,化妆,打扮,弥补;break up解散,结束;bring up养育,提起。

Top 10 Moments of the Beijing Olympics…

One possible version:
Recently a survey was conducted. According to the survey, the near-sight rate and reasons for it can be various in terms of age and personal habits.
There are 23% of the primary students, 55% junior school students and 70% senior school students who are near-sighted. With the growing of the age, more and more students are affected by near-sight.
Why are they affected by near-sight? I think one of the reasons is that they use their eyes toolong. And also, they don't use their eyes healthily. Maybe they often wipe their eyes with their dirty hands and sometimes use the dirty towels. What's worse, they read books while walking, taking the bus and under the strong light. Besides, they lack the knowledge to protect the eyes.
As far as I am concerned, if you want to have a pair of bright eyes, we should avoid the bad habit of using eyes and we should do eye exercises twice a day.
