1. Revision ( 10 mins )
1) Review the structure language that students have learnt last class.
First, I will ask students if they remember what they have learnt last class. Some students may say yes, some may say no. Then I write the structure language on the blackboard.
“— Can you come to (my party)?
— Sure, I’d love to.
— I’m sorry, I can’t. I have to (go to the doctor).”
After writing it, let students read it following me for two times. Then show them two pictures to practise the structure language. The students play the role of the person on the picture, and answer my question “Can you come to my party?”
2) Then I will help students to review the predicate verb of the third person. I will give them an excise to let students fill the blanks with proper form of the given words.
2. Presentation (15 mins)
After the excise, I will lead in the topic of this lesson. First, I will show them a picture. A girl is doing her homework. Then I ask students:”Can she come to the party?” and write the question on the blackboard. Then I will answer the question together with students:” No, she can’t. She has to do her homework.” And write it on the blackboard.
Then I will show them another picture. A boy is having a piano lesson. Then I ask:” Can he come to the movies?” And write it on the blackboard. The students will answer:” No, he can’t. He has a piano lesson.” Then I will write the answer on the blackboard.
Then another picture. Some people are playing football. I ask:” Can they go to the concert?” And write the question on the blackboard. Then the students will answer:” No, they can’t. They are playing football.” Then I write the answer on the blackboard.
Then I will let students read the dialogue on the blackboard following me for two times. After reading, I will ask students to stand up to read each dialogue again.
3. Practice (5mins)
I will divide the students into two groups and continue to show them pictures to practise the structure language. I will first ask Group 1 a question, they should answer it in the role of the person on the pictures. Then I ask Group 2 a question, they should answer it from the third person perspective. Let’s make this picture for example. First, I will ask Group 1:” Can you come to my party?” Group 1 should answer:” We are sorry, we can’t. We are fishing.” Then I ask Group 2:” Can they come to my party?” Group 2 should answer:” No, they can’t. They are fishing.” Then Group 1 and Group 2 exchange their roles, and I will ask questions again. First, I will ask Group 2:” Can you come to my party?” Group 2 should answer:” We are sorry, we can’t. We are fishing.” Then I ask Group 1:” Can they come to my party?” Group 1 should answer:” No, they can’t. They are fishing.”
Then I will show another four pictures, students will practise them just like picture 1.

Then st3 ask st1 questions according to st3’s card, and then write the answers down. After finishing the work, st3 should compare his notes with st2’s calendar to see if he is right. Then the group should hand in st3’s answers. Which group to be the first will have a prize. As for how to play the game, I will make an example. First, St1 ask St2 the first question according to his card:” Can you come to my party this Tuesday evening?” St2 look at his calendar, he is free on Tuesday evening, so he should answer:” Yes. I’d love to.” At this time, st1 should write the answer down.
