One day, my grandpa went fishing and let me come with him. He handed me the rod(鱼杆) and taught me how to throw my line into the water.
The sun warmed us. We sat and talked. “I remember when I could sit here and watch the fish swimming in the water,” he said. “Sometimes, they’d jump out and land beside me. I didn’t even need a fishing rod then.”
“We have to be patient,” he continued. “The fish may come or may not. It doesn’t matter. We are out in the sun. It’s a beautiful day. If it rained, we couldn’t be here. We’re lucky to have the warmth of the sun.”
He leaned(倚靠)back against a tree. “Yes, it’s a great day,” he said.
I watched our bobbers(浮子). No fish pulled them under the water that day. It didn’t matter. I was with Grandpa. I felt grown up. Just being with him was special.
He was well liked by everyone. He had worked hard all his life for what little he had, but he could still find time to laugh. I wanted to be like him when I grew up.

I think it is safe to say that snakes are not popular among most people, It would be hard to find a person who is neutral( 中立的 ),or simply doesn’t care one way or the other, What I wonder is why something even without legs causes such great fear.
Snakes are quite useful, but that doesn’t seem to matter, Snakes help control the population of mice. Without snakes, perhaps we would find mice everywhere, Most of us, however, would rather see a mouse than a snake, The poison argument( 毒性的争论 )is a strong one, Some snakes are poisonous, and this causes people’s death , However, the poisonous snakes are only a small number. We can’t say all the snakes are bad just because of a few dangerous ones. And what do we do with the people who really like snakes? They like snakes even more strongly than we dislike them. These people learn about them, find them out, and watch them carefully, Why? The only reason I can think of is that these people are open-minded, They are able to put aside differences and welcome the snake as a friend.
Whatever the reason for our like or dislike, snakes do something good in the circle of life.
They would prefer to be left alone, and that is what we should do, If you’re lucky, you might not run across more than a few of them in a lifetime, That would be fine with most of us.
15.How does the writer describe the appearance of snakes?
A.Something even without legs.
B.Something not popular among people.
C.A person who is neutral.
D.A person who cares about nothing.

A.They welcome snakes as their best friends.
B.They would rather see a mouse than a snake.
C.They wonder why snakes can cause great fear.
D.They learn about snakes and watch them carefully.
17.Although some snakes are poisonous, _______.
A.they cause many people’s death
B.they control the population of mice
C.they are not dangerous to people
D.they are only a small number
18.The last paragraph seems to tell us that the writer _______.
A.dislikes snakes
B.has the best luck
C.loves snakes

Do you like potato chips? Can you imagine someone putting off graduation just to make them? This is exactly what happened with Du Haotian, a student from Shaanxi province. The potato chips Du is making are called guoba, usually made of millet rice(小米), but here Du chose colored potatoes as the ingredients(原料).
Zhenba, in the south of Shaanxi, has been trying to sell high-quality(质量)potatoes. But the sales are at a low level. Du, a student of Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University, together with his team, introduced colorful potatoes and made them into crispy, fried potato snacks. After trying again and again, it gradually turned into a popular snack at Du’s university. At the end of last year, Du’s team set up their own factory in the village to plant and produce the snacks locally. At the beginning of this year, the production line was put into use.
However, while helping the local community, Du was under pressure to graduate. Although he was supposed to graduate in June 2020, Du offered to put off graduation for one year. Du said the production line project was still on the way and he wanted to live up to the expectations of the villagers. “A lot of my friends and teachers told me not to do that. But if the factory is built but does not run well, it would be against my original intention(初心).” Finally, Du’s teacher supported him.
Recently, Du’s potato snacks took part in a college food competition. His product was once in the first place with the support of many local villagers, which touched Du. “Rural revitalization(乡村振兴)depends on industrial revitalization. I want to make an effort with my hard work in this process.”

Did you know that most humans are able to recognize about 1,000,000 different colors? Well, some people can’t recognize this many because of colorblindness. If someone is colorblind, that means he can’t see as many colors as others – or, in rare cases, can’t see colors at all.
Thankfully, special glasses have already been made to help fix some types of colorblindness. Now, according to a recent research, scientists have brought this solution one step further. Karepov and Ellenbogen, engineers from Israel have found a way to apply this technology to contact lenses (眼镜). This method is so creative because it can solve many different kinds of visual (视力的) problems.
People are able to see color because of how the eye is structured. At the back of our eyes, there’re three different kinds of cells that absorb (吸收) light waves. When light waves are absorbed, the cells send a message to the brain for the image to be processed.
If something is wrong with these cells, this can cause problems when the brain processes the image. One of the most common types of colorblindness is red-green colorblindness. People who have this specific type of visual imperfection have difficulty telling apart the colors red and green.
“It would influence simple daily routines such as telling the colors of traffic lights,” Karepov explained. He also stressed the importance of using this finding to create special contact lenses instead of relying on color-correcting glasses.
Whether you prefer to wear glasses or contacts, it’s nice to know that people who are colorblind will soon be able to choose between the two, as well.

Every day, China imports(进口) different goods from countries across the globe. These imports also include solid waste, such as plastics, paper and metals. They mainly come from countries like the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan.
These goods will no longer be imported next year. China will ban(禁止) all imports of solid waste starting from Jan 1, 2021, said the Ministry of Ecology and Environment(MEE).
Why does China import this waste? In 1980, China’s economy(经济) was gradually taking off because of the reform and opening-up policy(改革开放). The country’s factories didn’t have enough raw materials(原材料) at that time. Therefore, China began importing solid waste. After being processed, it can be turned into materials that are used to make other products.
For years, China has been the world’s largest importer of solid waste, with about 45 million tons arriving each year. Countries that send this waste to China pay about $25(163 yuan) to $50 per ton for recycling, China News Agency reported.
Although the waste has helped develop China’s economy, it has brought more risks than benefits. Waste that can’t be used is either burned or buried(填埋). The water used to wash the waste is allowed to flow into nearby rivers. This has polluted the air, soil and water, posing a risk to public health, China Daily reported.
China has made some efforts to ban waste since 2017. From 2017 to 2019, imports of solid waste fell by 68 percent, dropping from 42 million to 13 million tons, Xinhua reported.
What about China’s waste?
China can produce enough raw materials to support its economy now. However, it is also producing a rapidly-increasing amount of waste.
In 2019, the government worked out a guideline for the creation of zero solid waste programs. These programs have been carried out in 11 cities and five districts(区域), including Shenzhen in Guangdong province and Weihai in Shandong province.
