As we know, every country in the world has its disciplines and laws to make sure that its social system will function well ,and we human beings also have to live under the restraint of these rules .While disciplines and laws cannot be the only element of a social system it is the value which promote the establishment of the system. Different countries have different culture, about values ,even through some are the same, still some are quite different ,so it is necessary  to make a comparison between them.

First, Family values 

In Western countries, because of the supremacy of personal interests, family values are weak. In the Anglo-American family, "Home" is a highly personal territory, but also enjoys legal protection. Each bedroom must be knocked before entering. Also, visiting the others must be agreed in advance. When being a guest, you can not arbitrarily move in, look around, or randomly flip the house furnishings, or it is a violation of individual righ

At this point, the conflict between Western and Chinese are serious, Chinese cherish the love of family, we should be docile and obedient to our parents, and brothers should work together like brothers. Family members have no privacy, "family" atmosphere is especially strong. Chinese people have always liked full house guests, and treat their guests like family members, the guests may also be more casual. 

   This difference reflects the Western "self-interest", Chinese "altruistic" thinking. 

Second , Ethics

China think highly of nationality, clan, and focus on collectivism, the concept of a strong local advocate "parents do not travel to distant lands," "returning to their roots" are important.. Activities in the thinking and behavior, the clan has a center. Ethics is the pursuit of perfection, and the sage is perfect, we should think carefully before talking.. 

Western focus on individualism, they like moving around. Children should live from parents and fighting for the glory, they should have personal opinion. and social life and personality have diverse characteristics. Also they love competing with each other.

Third , Relationships

Relationships formed in communication vary from culture to culture .Chinese put heavy feeling in human relations, while Westerners are biased in favor of reality. Because of historical background and economic environment Westerners are more exposed, blunt, independent, free, adventurous. In relationships, everyone is equal, everyone can get a chance.

Because of Confucius, Chinese people focus on the interpersonal aspects of Ren and Li one. "Benevolence" is the life standard of people talking about my relationship with the intention of telling people how to manage relationships; "ceremony" is one of the norms of social behavior, it provides the rights and obligations of members of society, and the corresponding actions, so that Social harmony. "Benevolence" advocated relationships between family members both kiss, but also between different grades of Respect, is a kind of kinship-based, with the patriarchal nature of the kiss Respect relationships. Meanwhile, the Chinese feudal society is under the influence of social status, interpersonal relationships and emotional , the relationship between the family members, friends and family are on the basis of the developed relationships, so that people are interdependent and mutually satisfied, including emotional, including a variety of needs.

Fourth, concept of money and education 

Westerners spend more than they have, so they are almost always in debt. The Chinese spend less or equal to the amount they have, so they always have money left in the bank for emergency. Western kids love to make money by themselves. Chinese kids almost always ask money from their parents. 

Western parents think attending an expensive but prestigious college is useless. Chinese parents would do anything to send their children to good colleges even if it means that they have to sell everything they own..

Also in school, western girls are almost always involved in sports, dancing and singing groups while Chinese girls are almost always involved in academic and instrumental groups. Western students think that B is a gift while Chinese students think that B is a death sentence. Western teachers don’t teach. They just sit there and make the students read on their own. Chinese teachers teach things that are not even on the book.

Western parents allow their daughters or sons to go out with their boyfriends or girlfriends as long as they come home at the certain curfew. Chinese parents usually don’t approve of having relationship in middle or high school. Western parents support and encourage their children at all times while Chinese parents think that criticism is the best love in the world. Western parents only look at their children’s good side. Chinese parents seem to only see their children’s bad side. 

Fifth, habits and folkways 

Just like culture of each place is different. Habits are also different

  In the diet: we like a family around the dinner, and Westerners like attended to, each person a share. We use the chopsticks, and the West is to use a knife and fork. Western more developed countries, they pay attention to speed. So they like it, like McDonald's, Kentucky Fried Chicken fast food type.

Also Chinese and western countries is also significant in holidays . In addition to our common festivals, such as the New Year, the two sides also have their own unique festival, We Chinese have the Spring Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Day, etc.; they have Valentine's Day (Valentine's Day), Easter (Easter ), April Fool's Day (April Fools), Mother's Day (Mother's Day), Thanksgiving Day (Thanksgiving Day) and Christmas Day (Christmas) and so on. Western holidays are also very different customs;

 In the festival, a gift for others, Chinese and western countries also show a different attitude. Chinese people tend to put off some, acted no choice but to accept, open immediately generally not accepted. If open and exclaimed, may make other think you are greedy In western culture, people send gifts to others are generally required to open and praise about it.

And also ,we have different methods of introduction ,greeting and compliment and so on .

Why we have so many different values? The reasons are also different and diverse. We have different backgrounds and geographic location and culture. China greatly influenced by Confucianism, liking courtly love, emphasizing the gentleman, loving peace. Westerners greatly influenced by religion, thinking power is the truth, force is everything, so advocates of war, emphasizing the hero. Even though, there are many differences, we should respect each other’ and work hard to protect the Cultural Diversity下载本文
