Yangzhou,located in Jiangsu Province,is a city of long history and rich cultural heritage.The process of modernization did no damage to the city.Instead,it is becoming a perfect combination of modern and traditional style.Hence it is an ideal place to experience unique aspects of Chinese culture and chill out.Though Yangzhou is perhaps the fourth or fifth largest city in Jiangsu,no other city in Jiangsu can compare with the influence which Yangzhou has had on the development of the Chinese arts and culture.Yangzhou is a proud retainer of ancient Chinese architecture,Huaiyang cuisine and ancient artificial rivers.

What can one do in Yangzhou?Important historic sites,well-preserves examples of architecture from the18th-19th centries,and beautiful gardens invite the tourist or resident to’smell the rose’.Among so many historical sightseeing spots,Ge Garden is the most outstanding one.Built two centries ago,it combines southern Chinese garden architecture with the northern one.Another landmark in Yangzhou is Daming Temple.It was built in memory of Eminent Monk Jianzhen,who spread Buddhism in Japan.

Because of the unsurpassed history and culture,the restaurant goer will feel that he has died and gone to heaven while in Yangzhou.One is never far from a restaurant in Yangzhou.Local people tend to go to restaurant to have tea and baozi,a sort of steamed bun with something stuffing,for breakfast.Children enjoy baozi because it is fun to eat and delicious.The elderly enjoy it because they can chat a long time while eating it,which is a good way to kill time.

Yangzhou is a region of rivers and lakes.Dozens of rivers run across this city,among which Jinghang Canal is the most famous one.It was said that an emperor wanted to travel in Yangzhou.Consequentially,he ordered his people to carve this canal.The Slender West Lake is also a celebrated tourism attraction.Decorated with many precious plants,the Slender West Lake is glamorous and attractive in spring.There are many other small but lovely rivers across this city.They are less-known,but they add to the beauty of Yangzhou.

Of course Yangzhou is not for everyone.For those who need busy,crowded,noisy,and polluted cities,this city will surely be a disappoint.For the rest of people,though,Yangzhou is a good place to chill out,to enjoy the beauty of ancient architecture,cuisine and natural scenery.It is pleasant to make a point of visiting Yangzhou.
