In 1819, New Englanders Moses and Aaron Wilcox arrived in the town of Millville, Ohio, to sell land on behalf of the Connecticut Land Company. The twins offered a deal to the residents (居民) of the small settlement, which had been set up just two years earlier: We'll give you six acres of land for a public square and$2000 (a lot of money back then! ) to help start the first school, if you change the name of the town to Twinsburg.
Jump ahead a century and a half to 1976.City officials planned to mark the nation’s 200th birthday with a ceremony in memory of the Wilcox brothers, who had stayed lifelong business partners, married sisters, and died within a few hours of each other of the same disease.Organizers sent an open invitation to all twins; 37 sets of twins look part, and twice that number came two years later.
Today Twins Days is the biggest festival of its kind, drawing nearly 3,000 sets of twins and triplets (三胞胎)-and in some years, even quadruplets and quintuplets -to this city of 17,000 residents. Celebrated annually on the 1st weekend in August, Twins Days is mostly for twins and their families and friends. But almost since the beginning, the festival has also attracted researchers, especially geneticists, interested in the mysteries of twins' share characteristics. And there are thousands of visitors with no better reason to come than just to join in the fun.

"Improvements in national lest results for 14-year-olds in English, maths and science have hit a plateau (高原)," ministers have admitted.
Test results published yesterday show that there has not been an important change in Scholastic
Aptitude Test (SAT) results in the past four years, following a decade of rising results since it was introduced.
About 21% of 14-year-old boys failed to register any level in the reading tests, meaning that one in five are reading below the level expected for a 14-year-old.Jim Knight, the school minister, said parents should encourage their sons to read books by introducing them to Jeremy Clarkson and Andy McNab's novels.Science results dropped two points to 71% and maths rose a point to 77%.It means that ministers have missed their target to gel 85% of all pupils to the expected level in science and maths by last year, and to sustain (维持) that level this year.A second target, for 74% of 14-year-olds to get a level five or above in both English and maths by 2012, now looks increasingly out of reach.Yesterday's figures show 66% of pupils hit this target.
Knight said, "As we improve higher and higher, each extra gain is a hit more difficult for schools to achieve. That doesn't mean I don't think they can achieve that and we've got the right strategies to do so. but each of those gains is harder and that's why our targets are particularly ambitious.I'm not using it to make excuses. We've not hit the 85%.target that we want to …obviously we're disappointed we didn't
achieve this."
"It's quite hard to step up for a lot of pupils from level four to five because they are having to engage with some of our classical authors, writing in a different style of language from what they might use at
home or at school with their friends."
57.When was the SAT introduced if the text is written in 2008?
A.1994. B.1998. C.2001. D.2004.
58.Which of the following is true according to the text?
A.It's easy to achieve the second target by 2012.
B.Parents never encouraged their children to read books.
C.It's difficult to incprove most pupils' reading levels now.
