A Twisty Road Faced by WIDE ANGLE
Edited by 46 张杨雪
Wild Angle, the first English campus radio station, will go on the air officially next semester. The new radio station will be a radio station produced by the students and for the students."We are really excited and hope it will be another way for students to connect to the campus," said Jing Lanyan, a senior who is also the station manager."It also will provide everyone a new stage to learn English."
"We've gone from nothing to something in a pretty short amount of time," said Lin Luxia, the spokesman of Wild Angle."The students have been diligent in their efforts for the past 14 months to make this a reality. "
Although the broadcasting time will be only 45 minutes everyday, the programs in Wild Angle will be every colourful and comprehensive. For instance,Natural Flavor and Campus Flash cover the information of latest news and hot issues.Learning Compass,Our Stage and Anglo-American Culture scenery provide you a new platform to learn more about English and medicine. Lingering Lyrics and Music Box focus on many wonderful music .But Wild Angle is not a music-focused radio station, nor is its focus primarily religious in nature. Rather, it centers on original student-produced content.
What's more, updates about the radio station can also be found on Chinese Youth Radio websites. Much of the content is also available as a downloadable podcast.Students can get and listen to their favourite programs on their own timetable and at their convenience. "We definitely want student involvement," JING Lanyan said.Meanwhile a blog and a email box will be open for comments and proposals.
However, many students still hold a conservative attitude toward the new radio station. There are several steep challenges facing the broadcast of the radio station— there is a huge expense involved in upgrading the equipments .The overall lack of attention and funding make matter worse. Besides the faculty and administration is not professional enough.
Now less and less would choose listen to the radio, let alone campus radio.Take the established campus radio as a example."There is few people listening to broadcast."said a anonymous interviewee."Its sole object is remind school administrators the time to get off work."This kind of viewpoint may be too extreme, but it honestly reflects the worrying fact. How is the station's programming expected to grow when, with no listeners, all the disc jockeys can do is talk to themselves?
Now the naive Wild Angle faces a difficult problem:How to guarantee and improve the popularity of radio program? The most essential key would be realize and meet what students really need.
They need a station that can serve the majority, rather than the minority, of students on campus in sports and music, with programming that is based on their interests.
They need a station that is easily accessible (whether through radio broadcast, Internet streaming, mobile phone apps that carry the stream) and on-air personalities that engage them and promote Wild Angle camaraderie and spirit.
They need a station that can, for those students who wish to enter professional radio broadcasting, provide job experience in writing, DJ work, market research, program development, and station management.
They do not need a station with a directorship that ignores the concerns of mainstream DJs, provides them with only baseline and broken equipment.
It is not yet known whether the Wild Angle will be feats or failures? Let us wait and see!下载本文
